C240 Radiator leaks into transmission
Hey, wondering if anyone else experienced the same......
Just told by the MB dealer that my 2003, C240 4matic with less than 89,000 kilometers (about 60,000 miles) will need a new radiator and transmission job.
The mechanic said the radiator leaked radiator fluid into the transmission. The MB mechanic said that this happened because the design configuration for the car is such that it uses the radiator fluid to cool the transmission.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Needless to say, I didn't expect this from a MB. As far as what this will cost, well let's just say I'm seriously considering not having the job done, and selling the car for parts. What's more surprising is that no rust can be found in the radiator or transmission. The car was purchased new in Oct 2003 from MB, it was never involved in an accident, and has very low mileage.
This doesn't sound like normal wear or is it. If it is normal, why don't we hear about this happening more often.
Thanks!

it was a huge problem and its unfortunate it didnt happen while your car was under warranty. there are numerous posts on here about it. ive repaired about 10 cars in the past with this problem.. some only got radiators and some got trans and radiators. they usually recommend a new radiator and to flush the transmission and sometimes this takes care of the problem. other times it doesnt. depends on how long the car has been driven with the coolant in the transmission. so there could be damage to the trans.
