C240 brake job

Hello Everyone,

I'm about to attempt to replace both front and rear brakes and rotors on my 2001 C240. The brake lining warrning just came on the dash. I have >85K on the car so I guess it's about time. I purchased Raybestos OEM replacement brakes and rotors for <$250. I also purchased two brake warning sensors from the dealership. I have replaced brakes on all the cars I have owned, both US and European. I would like to know if there is anything different about replacing them on this vehicle or if there is somewhere I can view a step by step process? I appreciate any assistance you can give.

Thanks,
Zippy50

On page 2 of the C class forum there is a post about it and someone even has pictures. Might help.

Wheels can sometimes be difficult to get of. Loosen lugnuts part way and "kick" the wheels from the outside ensuring the vehicle is safely secured on the jack.

Ensure you correctly retorque the caliper fixing bolts correctly since you will have to remove the calipers in order to change the rotors.

Do the rotors actually need to be changed? This decision is dependent upon wear (thickness vs new). Ideally they should be measured with a micrometer. Are Raybestos OE suppliers??

Take great care when pushing the old pads back so as not to damage the piston seals.

Ensure road wheels are correctly and evenly torqued in sequence otherwise the new rotor can warp and cause judder etc.
