It is ok for Benz cars to indicate 100degree C on the engine temp gauge if everything with the engine is working ok. It is not normal for it to overheat/boil over at that temp. Consider a cooling system flush and refill with good quality antifreeze at a mixture of 50/50 antifreeze/water. While doing this, ensure no leaks in the cooling system. Any repair garage can do this for you. Jiffy Lube and other oil change places also can do this. If doing it yourself, consider:http://www.alldatadiy.com/ for maintenance information. Worth the annual fee.

you most likly not circulating the coolent good at idle, feel the temp of the upper and lower hose by hand if diffrent you may have a clogge radiator check your radiator cap check fan clutch if you can stop it by hand or an object at idle when engine is hot is not good, when you drive the air flow cools your radiator thats why you are better ,
check your head gasket for problem
