a/c short
 

<FONT size=2> Where do i begin, i have a mercedes 1987 560 sl and the a/c, blower and heat did not work. when examining the a/c control panel i found a short in one of the circuit boards so i soldered over the short and got it the blower working. I recently bought a new a/c panel control unit and it states that each pin that attaches to the unit should read 15ohms or more. If it does nota shortexists and not to hook up unit.</FONT></P>


<FONT size=2> Here lies my problem several pins are reading 0 ohms which indicates a short. My question is how do i locate the short .... whats my next move....</FONT><FONT size=2> thanks for the help dan dahill</FONT></P>

HI, Nydan, I am currently working toward repairing the automatic climate control in my 1986 420 SEL. My blower would only work on Auto, the HI or LO buttons had no effect. For a short time it would operate about 10 seconds on Hi, then stop abruptly. Now it doesn't work at all. Sounds like you are further along than I am, maybe you can help me, and we can help each other. My next step is getting the console fascia off to get to the ACC control assembly.<IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0">

my advice to you is to pull the climate control panel out and take off the plastic cover that houses the circuit board most likely you will find a burnt out area on the board. this willtell you that your either dealing with a short or a bad board. my control panel had a sticker on it that had a date of 2003 which assured me that it had been replaced and my problem was a short. thats were i am now trying to determine how to find the short. </P>

Thanks, I am trying to figure out how to get the panel out; I have the two screws out of the bottom and the bottom will pull out a little, but ?<IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"></P>


I assume you are referring to the pushbutton control unit on the center console?</P>

hi i have a 1986 560 sec which i am restoring.
presently am working on climate control (actually waiting on parts!!).
are you guys talking about the push button controller in the console?
i seem to have my problem in the a/c compressor control relay which receives input from various sources including rpm, inside temp, evaporator temp.etc.these inputs are generally from heat sensitive resistors ie they vary resistance with temperature (except rpm which has a square wave form). are we on the same wavelength?
the relay in my car had been "modified "by tying the relay closed so it was independent of the inputs. new relay expected soon. it is located at rear of engine bay and marked KLIMA. i have copy of redrawn wiring diagram (redrawn to be legible) if you nee.d section let me know

KEL347, DID YOU RECEIVE YOUR PARTS IE THE CONTROL PANEL I PUT MINE IN AND STILL NO A/C HOWEVER IF I JUMP THE RELAY THE COMPRESOR GOES ON AND A/C IS COLD. THE BLOWER WORKS AND HEAT WORKS. HOWEVER TEMP DOES NOT VARY WHEN I TURN THE TEMP CONTROL. THE KLIMA SOUNDS LIKE A POSSIBILITY WHAT DO YOU THINK.
