Burn on hood liner over, exhaust crossover

Burn on hood liner over, exhaust crossover
1997 320 SL. The hood liner is burned to the point of dropping off over the back end of the engine. The burn follows the preheater hose, exhaust crossover pipe from the air cleaner to the other side of the engine. The water and oil are fine. Ideas?
