BRAKE ROTORS CAUSE SQUEAL??
 

I have a 1988 560sl with 120,000 miles and i'm sure it has the original rear rotors. The problem is a very loud brake squeal on most stops. I replaced the pads, applied anti-squeal spray to the pads and shims, cleaned the rotors and didn't get 20 miles on the pads and the squeal returned. I did not turn the rotors but they have a nice lip on them from wear. Will worn rotors cause this noise and if so, why?

are the pads genuine? the squeal is caused by a vibration setup between pad and rotor, if the rotor is worn or not running true, it can cause it to squeal. or try a pad with a softer material.

it has been my experience with my millenia that worn rotors do squeal.

i had to have the rear ones replaced cause they were extremely worn.

just my experience with the mazda. no problems with the mercedes yet.

possible.

worn out rotors means more travel for the piston of the brake caliper outwards.

if the piston is futher out from the base, vibration that could create noise is more likely to happen.

the lip on the rotor causes the squeel, if you shave the pad just barely so it dosent mash against it it will quiet it
