I get lots of brake dust on my wheels. Pain to always be cleaning. I heard there are brake pads that produce much less dust. Any recommendations?</P>

There are ceramic pads that produce very little dust. A good place to find them is either PBR or Repco. They are a little more expensive but well worth the cost.

 

I heard the ceramic pads tend to cause oscillations when the brakes are applied. Do you have any experience with these types of padson a Mercedes?</P>

 

True ceramic pads are likely unavailable and a lot more expensive. Pads alone for the Ferarri Enzo run $6K.Yes that's pads only, not the carbon fiber rotors which are required with true ceramic pads. Porsche offers them on some models for a few grand. I found Repco pads less responsive and replaced them with stock pads and got my "pedal feel" back. Your best bet is to go with dust shields, they work great and look fine with stock MB wheels. With open spoke wheels, they look ghastly. I can hear the chorus , they might affect brake cooling! In racing that would be true but not in street driving according to the mfg. and common sense.

 

But some of us race our street cars. I can hear the chorus also. No, not on the street. I guess if you use dust shields you can remove them before racing. </P>


BTW, I used to have a '98 Z28 daily beater. Whatever pads GM put on it created hardly any dust at all. I washed the car every week or two and there was never any noticeable coat of brake dust on thewheels.I wish I could tellyoumore about them.There are also some polishes that are anti-staticand help keep them clean, a little.</P>
