Audio 10 Cassette Radio
My 2002 model W203 is fitted with an Audio 10 with Cassette Radio with RDS and a 6 CD changer in the glove compartment.
I rarely use the cassette player.
Now I have a problem: When the cassette is inserted the display shows SIDE 1which can be changed to SIDE 2 using the > button. The display also shows DOLBY R. I can't off the dolby using the 4 button as given in themanual. There is no sound at all and the cassette does not seem to turn. The radio and the cd work fine.
Any help to rectify the situation is appreciated.
How do I take th head unit off the dash?
Thanks. SHAN.

Shan-
The extracation of your radio should be relatively easy, but patience is required. I had a 2002 c230K and replaced the factory unit with an Alpine 9857 then put the factory unit back in when I sold the car.
1. Start by removing the center console trim panel.
2. Pop out the ashtray.
3. Remove the center A/C vent trim carefully as there are little fragile plastic posts. They'll flex and bend but just don't go all Hercules.
4. With the trim piece removed rotate the A/C vents upward until they stop. Now push them past the lockout point and you'll hear a click. Don't worry you aren't breaking anything, you have to do this to gain access to the torx head screws.
5. I can't recall the size but you need a torx head bit screwdriver, loosen the 2 torx head screws until the A/C vents are free and be careful not to let the screws escape.
6. Using a flashlight, look into the cavity where your ashtray was and you'll see 2 silver spring clips, one on each side. Release these clips (I used a flat head screwdriver to pop them).
7. With the A/C vent removed and the spring clips released your console should pull out.
8. You can disconnect the wiring harnesses for your A/C, ESP, Hazzards, etc.. if you want to but there is enough room to leave them attached and swing the console out of the way so you can get at the radio.
9. Using a torx head bit screwdriver remove the 4 mounting screws holding your radio in place and Viola!
When you put it back together put the console in (but don't fasten the spring clips) before trying to put the A/C vent back in. It will take a little finesse and massaging to get it lined up and back in and this is where the patience part comes in. Once you have the A/C vent in, make sure the screw holes are lined up and tighten the screws. You'll have to put a little pressure on the A/C vent to make sure the screws seat otherwise you'll be trying to tighten them for a half hour and they'll just keep turning. The last piece that should go back in is your ashtray. Hope this helps.
