Anyone know how to adjust the low beam headlights on a 03 sl500? Or is it Rocket Science?
If anyone could help me out here....I need to know how to adjust the low beam height on the headlamps of a 2003 - 2006 sl500. It used to be easy on older cars of other makes....you just pulled up to a wall turned the lights on and took a turn or two on a screw and watched the light move up or down on the wall. If this German car takes special tools and a Rocket Scientist to make this adjustment....well I would appreciate someone telling me that too.
Thanks,
Ken

Thanks for at least getting back to me...I purchased the car used and I have never had xenon lights but I believe that is what they are....even low beams very bright and kind of blueish when you first turn them on. Is there a way to tell the difference between xenon and halogens?

I had a problem with aiming. It turned out that the horizontal adjuster was disconnected on one light, and the vertical on the other! I had to remove both Mercedes Headlights , inspect, and get things connected back together. Look inside the headlight bucket through the large opening in the back...you'll see how the adjusters work.
On the horizontal adjuster, the reflector wasn't seated properly onto the adjuster. I had to pry the locking tab up slightly to get it to hold in place properly.
On the vertical adjuster, there is a ball-and-socket link. The ball was not seated in the socket. I pulled on it -- actually, I used a tie wrap as a puller -- and popped the ball back in the socket.
Yes, it took a LOT of tinkering to make these lights work right. But it gave me something to do on an otherwise boring weekend!
