95 300 diesel smoking
My 95 Eclass 300 D smokes and gets poor milage. I took off the turbo and it
was still smoking. 6cyl diesel has absolutly no blow by and never takes a drop of oil even at high speeds and long trips Purchased it 3 months ago. Seller said he had the injectors replaced and the injection pump. I tried adjusting the smoke control and it seems a bit better. but not enough. I am a 71 year old retired MG and Jag mechanic. I have owned many older benz diesels but only 4 and 5 cylinder Jobs. I would really appricate any help. Thanks, Phil |
Diesel smoking
I just purchased the car recently and now I realize that it is not a turbo.
What I thought was a turbocharger was a huge smog attachment. Sorry for being so stupid. I did find that with unhooking the feed line to no 3 injector the smoking stopped. My 200.00 compression tester wont fit this newer engine. only the old ones. I am hoping there is good compression. I do have another way to test it but I will have to go to a lot of trouble. It had horrible fuel millage, absolutly no blow by and not a drip of oil consumption. So I am hoping so much that it is the no 3 injector. I took it out today and am taking it in to my rebuilder tomorrow. I hope the excess fuel did not bend my rod. This happened on and Isuzu diesel I overhauled. So I gotta say my prayers. Ps thanks for the tip. I won't be putting a turbo on it. ps again. One guy on ebay trying to sell a car like mine says he gets 35 MPG This must be a stretch. What is the max I could expect with a light foot???? |
Thanks so much
Thanks FI,
Without no 3 fuel pipe hooked up it quit smoking. Today I am going to check the compression from no3 glow plug hole. My diesel compression checker should fit that thread as it did on my old benz's. I also have a older 300 turbo D 1983. Love that body style. Don't smoke at all and engine and trans are solid. very little power. Been waiting forever for a title and I got most of the papers in order after 6 months. I prefer the 83 for looks and it may be better on fuel. Thanks so very much for your advise Phil Rishel |
