89 560sel stalls after start up

i have a 1989 560sel with 198k. when the car is cold it starts up then stalls after about 5 seconds then restarts up right away. it will start and die a few times before it finally will stay running. previous to this it ran fine. it has been doing this for about a month, now the check engine light remains lit. car has plenty of power, changed cap, rotor, wires, plugs a couple months ago with quality parts and use reputable gas.

must got fuel injector leak.

takes time to burn the fuel.

what do you mean, the injector is leaking internally or around the outside? the injectors have all new o rings around them. i would think the problem might be with a sensor or something, but thats why i am here to get ideas!!!

internal. inside the engine cylinder.

new o-rings cannot stop leaky injectors.

after turning off the engine, there is still holding pressure in the fuel line. if the injector is leaking, it will deposit good amount of fuel inside the cylinder till the next start.

now... you got the ideas?

would that also cause the car to run rough at idle and worse at idle in gear? is this a common problem? how sure are you of this being the problem? i would buy the injectors if you are sure of it. great running car except at idle and cel being on.

yes but only for that first 5 seconds that you've mentioned. after that, the combustion is normal.

don't buy or replace anything yet without the proper diagnosis. your engine is a very complex system, and different source of problem can happen on the same symptoms.

it can also be the cold start valve, temperature sensor/switch, clogged fuel filter, etc.

replacing parts by trial and error will cost you too much time, effort and money.
