86 560SL broken gauges
Hi everyone,
I'm a first time poster. I own a 1986 560SL with 80,000 miles. All of a sudden, the gauges on the dash do not work (fuel gauge, speedometer, tachometer, etc). Also, the turn signal andpower windowsno longer work, but my "emergency flashers" and headlights still work. The car still starts up and I'm able to drive it fine. Any ideas on what this problem might be? Thanks! |

Did u check the fuses?

RE: 86 560SL broken gauges
Cracked and/or blown fuse. A cracked fuse is hard at times to see. just replace the appropriate one.

RE: 86 560SL broken gauges
The fuses are behind a small 4" x 6" panel on the right side of the passenger footwell. Pop this cover off and on the back of the cover should be a list of which fuse # controls which circuit. Do not use anything other than a plastic fuse remover/installer to get the bad one out and new one in. Only replace the fuse with the exact one that is called for. These are color coded and easy to determine the correct one. These are available at any autoparts, autozone, pep boys, etc.

RE: 86 560SL broken gauges
Ii recommend for anyone who owns this type of car 1990 and down buy a 12v test light those red, white, blue ceramic fuses in your box go out like mad and not always obvious. the best way to find a problem or fuse is with the test light this loads the circuit and check both the top and bottom of the fuse alot of times the fuse strip will get a hair line crack which is hard to see and cause a dropp in amps to the circuit causing it not to work right with the nake eye it may appear ok but its not LOAD THE CIRCUIT !! also buss man fuses makes glass type torpedo fuses they are way better the the original and when the fuse opens you can tell i believe its a must for any 124,126,107 owner
