Default Wrong Gas

I asked for the higher grade gas and didn't watch the attendent. When I got home I looked at the receipt and, sure enough, she put in the lowest grade. 2005 C230 Kompressor. Second tank of gas. Should I add a octane booster or wait till the tank is half and then have the same station add premium gas?? [sm=feedback.gif] Thanks. J

I believe your engine is equipped with anti-knock sensor, so you should be safe with lower octane.
Just go easy on acceleration and back off the pedal if you hear knocking.

Just keep adding the higher octane gas as you use up the lower octane. Octane booster will do little.

More interesting to me: Oregon has full-service gas stations? I haven't seen one for 20 years.

I agree with lugnut.

Just drive it easy.

Your ears and "check engine light" (CEL) will let you know if something BAD is going on knocking wise.

If it is knocking, you can try an Octane booster, but make sure to use something good like Red-Line, don't use the cheap stuff.

Also, if the "check engine light" does come on, don't bother having it reset (unless you have your own tool to do so) until you've gone through that gas, because until it's out of the system the CEL will come back on.

hope this helps

Yeah that is a trip...

Actually, I think (not positive though) it's illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon. Can some clarify this please??

I drove through there once, stopped at a station, went to pump my own gas and the guy came running out and totally wigged out on me.

Definately illegal to pump your own gas here. Funny enough the price for gas is only $2.63 for the mid grade. But I'm sure we'll catch up somehow.

Shhhhh!! Don't tell the DMV. Some of our taxes are higher, though.
