'83 240D Clutch Problem

About 6 months ago, the clutch pedal on my 4 speed manual '83 240D started going all the way to the floor without the clutch disengaging. I discovered that the fluid level in the resevoir was low, so I refilled it, and after pumping the clutch pedal for a good 15 minutes, I got it back to normal and everything was fine for a few more months. Then things started to get bad really fast.

Now, if the car sits for more than a day out in the cold, the pedal goes all the way to the floor regardless of the fluid level. It takes a lot longer to pump it up now and the fluid is going down in the resevoir fast. I have to re-fill it several times a week now just to keep from losing the clutch completely after it has been parked a few hours.

Additionally, both the brake and clutch lights flicker randomly during normal operation of the car.

I've been looking on here for previously existing posts on this problem but can't seem to find anything.

Any ideas?

RE: '83 240D Clutch Problem

Looks like your clutch needs a rebuild/replacement.
Mine is a MB200 gasoline and there are two pumps:
One is inside the car mounted vertically near the pedals and is a real pain to reach.
The other is in the engine compartment at the bottom and easy to access from under.
If the fluid level is dropping, you should be able to see the leak at the pumps.
The new pumps should be under $100 each.
