560sec aux fan worries
 

Hi all

Just recently bought an '89 560SEC (my first Merc!).
Having a few concerns with running temperature and the auxiliary fan.

Firstly, the aux fan was starting and stopping eratically when the engine wasfirst started in the morning- then that stopped -but only because the fuse blew on account of the starting and stopping.

Fuse was replaced, and now the fan starts up and goes flat out when the engine is stone cold -stops when the motor hits about 50 deg C

I have not heard the fan kick in when the engine is warm. And whereI live with 30+ deg days the engine is having brief excursions above 100 deg C in traffic jams (cooling down to 90-ishwhen i get some speed up).

So ...
(a) is it usual for the fan to start when engine is cold? and
(b) what is a normal temperature range for these cars? should the temperaturevary this much in normal driving?
