Default 500 SEL oil change question

Hi all,
I'm doing a little work on my mother's 1985 500 SEL. I like to change the oil. Just bought the oil filter and it's not a screw in type, it's a canister lype. I never install one of these so let me ask a few simple questions.

I believe I've located the oil filter on the left side of the engine. The oil seems to be encase in the metal canister housing. I'm assuming all I have to do is remove the screw on top and then remove the oil filter and replace a new one. I'm curious to know if there are any surprises that I should be aware of when openning the canister housing. Are there any spring under tension that I should be aware of. Any, suggestion would be appreciated. I just don't want to mess up this simple task.

Huh? You're not going to tell him about that oily gremlin that jumps out and bites you on your face?
