300D Turbo overfilled trans

I changed the transmission fluid in my 82 300d turbo. Drained the torque converter and tranny, new fluid, gasket and filter. Followed directions and ended up putting in7 quarts of fluid, drove one mile, checked for leaks and fluid level, tranny has been leaking ever since between the torque converter and the pan, it is a slow drip but increases while running and stops completely over night. The stick has never measured over full cold or hot, what have I done?? All trans cooler lines, pan gasket, etc are not moist, leak is directly out of the transmission. Are there vents anywhere that could be pushing out fluid? Thanks to anyone who can help.I can only assume I overfilled it.<IMG src=smileys/smiley19.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>tbailey</editID><editDate>37939.5714351852</editDate></edited>

It sure sounds like you overfilled it, especially if it has never leaked before. Make sure the tranny is up to normal temperature before checking the fluid level which equates to about 5 to 7 miles of normal driving, stop on a level surface, let it run and stabilize for a few minutes in park, then check your fluid level. The fluid will expand when it gets hot is probably why it's leaking after you've been running it and then stops for the night.</P>

Please report back as to what you found.</P>

Make sure you check the fluid level while the engine is running in park, forgot to add that in!!
