2006 COMAND unit problem
 

I have a 2006 CLK with a COMAND media player. I am getting a very annoying "popping sound" coming out of the speakers at seemingly random times. Sounds almost like there is a short somewhere in the system. It occurs in all speakers, not just isolated to one. Happens on different stations and if listening to CD or iPod. It seems to be getting slowly worse. Now the sounds are clustered more. It will occur, then it will sound fine for 20-30 seconds. I did have someone suggest that this could be an amp going bad?

Does any of this sound familiar or anyone have any ideas?
