Default 2002 C220 CDI EVO COUPE-LOSS OF GEARS

CAR FIRST REG 08/02, has six spd sequential automated change tranmission unit, and choice of auto, or manual shift.
In June 2006, at 40,000 miles, LOSS OF GEARS WAS EXPERIENCED,
MB at exeter uk fitted new gear selector pump and associated relay.

In November 2006, at 42,000 miles it lost gears again, MB at Swansea uk detected a stored fault, but no definite physical fault.

In July 2007, it lost gears again, MB at Swansea detected an indefinite fault with the clutch travel sensor, COST TO REPAIR =£ 850.00 GBP, AND NO GARRANTY IT WOULD RECTIFY FAULT.

I chose to drive it until it would drive no more, then perhaps it would have a definite fault!!!

In March/April 2008, lost gears again twice, MB at Bridgend uk detected a faulty GEARBOX CONTROL UNIT, £750.00 GBP TO FIX, BUT AGAIN NO GARRANTY THAT IT WOULD RECTIFY THE FAULT,
THEREMUST BE SOMEONE OUTTHERE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS SITUATION, AND WHAT WAS DONE TO CURE THE FAULT.
It seems to me that MB have made something with onboard diagnostic capability, and have the equipment read the memory of that processor and still cannot give a customer a definite reason for the sympton of "loss of Gears"
