2002 430 CLK won't start
Car has original varta battery, tried recharging, dash lights came on-then dimmed, engine would not turn over. Replace battery? If it's the battery, where do I get another varta battery?

RE: 2002 430 CLK won't start
Sounds like dead battery.
If you want a MB OE spec which includes Varta get it from MB BUT it will be more expensive than many others on theafter market which should perform satisfactorily. Usual battery life = 4 years so looks like you have had some extra! Stuart |
RE: 2002 430 CLK won't start
The Varda battery lasted so long, I presumed that it was a better quality. How can I find a battery of similar quality. I called a Houston MB dealership and they were reluctant to give me another battery and referred me to MB Roadside Assistance. I called MB RA and they did not seem thrilled to drive to my ranch (it is several hours from the nearest largecity). Is there some secret to cross referencing and replacing aMB battery? Stuart, thanks for the response, Missy

RE: 2002 430 CLK won't start
Most batteries (accumulators) are good and reliable these days although several different technolgies are used. The more expensive ones tend to use the best technology.
Starter motors no longer place such a dire load on the battery as they used to since the introduction of geared starter motors and of course fuel injection and coil per cylinder ignition systems. I guess any premium battery will be OK so long as size, rating and terminal type are correct / comparable with the displaced battery. Not sure if Varta are sold in the USA. They are here in the UK as they are in therest of Europe. rating will be printed somewhere on the battery casing. Stuart |
