Can someone tell me what they think may be the cause of a clicking or popping sound coming from rear of my 300te wagon. It usually happens when I first start from a dead stop and then quits once I get moving. The sound is very similar to a front wheel drive car when the cv joints start to go. I would appreciate anybody that could shed some light on what this might be. Thanks!!

 

it might be easier to locate if you can put the car on a pit and listen to where the sound is coming from.

basing on others experience is not good enough since the same noise can have different source or the same source can have different noise.

 

Poping noise may be just frre play in diff taking up when cold.
Could also be handbrake shoes sticking a bit due to condensation.
