I managed to destroy the panel that screws under the front part of the car and covers the bottom of the engine and part of the exhaust system. I need a replacement and honestly don't know what to call it. I feel rather dumb. Can someone help me?

 

I have the 87 300D sedan. I don't know the technical name for the underbody engine cover/pan!

I'm told they are slightly different on the gassers and wont fit the diesels unless you modify.

I'm also told they are hard to find used, but may still be available from the MB dealer, but alot of $$$$
