I just bought a 1985 300d in really great shape. The transmission fluid is low and I won't to top it off for now and when I get time I'll change it with a new filter. Can anyone till me what type fluid to use to top it off for now and also what fluid and filter is best when I finally get to change it? Also it looks like the transmission pan is leaking. I have'nt got into the procedure to change the filter yet. Do I drop the pan to get to the filter? If so then the leaking pan gasket will be taken care of when I change the filter. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thants, Don

 

Thanks much for the info. Since I don't know what type fluid is in it now, should I NOT use a synthetic to top it off, then use synthetic when I change it?? Don
