Default 1985 190D w Standard Trans. - NO REVERSE?

Hi all,
Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction here.
I have standard transmission on this '85 190D and I can no longer put the stick in reverse.
The 5th gear is also on the right side, above reverse, and is also starting to get hard to shift into.
There never was any slipping or grinding and the tranny is otherwise performing fine. It feels like something that is guiding the stick is getting stuck and not the actual tranny.
Any thoughts? Questions?

Thanks to all in advance,
Dan

Not sure, but I would check all the linkage bushings, both on the shifter arms and in the shifter itself. Should be no slop. They are inexpensive from the dealer and not really a difficult job to replace.

Thanks, any idea where I can find part numbers or a 'bushing kit' or similar for this? I'm not sure how to identify the correct parts.

Is this all done under the car or is some of the work from inside the car?

Thanks!

You'll buy the bushing from a dealer, so just let them look them up. They are not expensive. The linkage bushing are under the car. Those are most likely the bad ones. If the ones on the shifter itself needs replacing, than you have to partially disassemble the console to remove it to change those bushings. (caviat - not having worked on shifter issues on a 190d before, but I have on a couple of 190e-16vs, a 126, and a 129)

4 in shifter, 3 beneath, pretty sure.

sign up for Benz EPC, it is free in usa, but you need to verify with a credit card, here:

http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/login.jsp

You can renew for free multiple years at once if you'd like.

You can also look up you data card which lists all options, etc. Plus you can find any part on your car and what the explosion is.

Launch, it loads java, ignore the errors, it will show you the tip of the day (you can read or skip), click md mode, pick md mode, click assortment class, pick car, scroll down to your car 201122 (190d usa), pick north america, pick your group, in this case 26 - gearshift.
