1984 500 sel fuel pump

Help?? rescued it from an owner that couldnt fix it and was going to scrap it. I'm no mechanic, but Im hoping i can save it. She will start fine with a little fuel down the air inlet but stops once that runs out. I've got no power at the fuel pump with the key on which if Im reading the manual right is ok becuase the fuel pump isn't powered unless the engine is running. If I connect power directly to the pump the pump doesnt kick one. Could someone please set me in the right direction. My manual is sufficiently vague when it comes to diagonsing the fuel pump. Thanks in advance for any and all help.:D

the relay is located on the firewall of engine compartment.

it's a black box the size of marlboro fliptop pack.

there's two, the other one is for a/c.

find the one for fuel pump.

turn ignition on.

pull it out and make jumper on pin 7 and 8.

was there a little spark?

can you hear/feel the fuel pump humming a business sound?

does the sensor plate on throttle body got resistance?

can you start the car?

ok thanks again. i have something under the hood making noise and the fuel pump is vibrating so i think im good there. the car still wont fire unless i pour gas in the intake then will only run on that. tommorow when i have more time, i will see if i am getting gas up to the engine. thanks again. doug
