For what it's worth, My Grandfather owns a '73 450SL with only 60k on it. He purchased it when it was only a year old. Last month, he replaced the transmission because it didn't seem to want to shift from 1st to 2nd gear as one might expect. $4,000.00 later, it shifts exactly like it did before the new one and at the exact same RPM increments. Come to find out, that's how it's supposed to shift.</P>
My own E-420 shifts ery much the same way. I don't feel there are any problems and I'm at 110,000 miles. Normal tranny service, and the first ever, was done at 96,000 miles.</P>
As for the A/C, I too am new to MB and understand the older ones struggle somewhat in the hotter US climates.Milder climateshowever, very few problems.</P>
