190E Cutting out intermitently

Hi All

I have a Mercedes 190E 2.0 injection 1993. The car has covered 95K (miles) without any problems and still runs like a dream. At approximately 65K (miles) it developed a strange fault that to date puzzles everyone that has attempted a fix (from my mechanically minded friends to the Borsch fuel injection system specialist).

The car intermitently cuts out for no apparent reason. It does not happen very often (maybe once a week). There does seem to be a pattern and it is always when I am coming to a set of lights or a junction. I have noticed the that the revs rise to about 1200 before it it dies, normally they would gradually drop before settling at 6-700.

When i attempt to re-start it restarts goes witout any problem and goes on and on until the next mysterious conking out event.

It is a pain as my wife will not drive the car for fear of it cutting out and loosing the power stering. Any heklp would be much appreciated.

regards
dean

RE: 190E Cutting out intermitently

There are many things that can cause this. Some things that will do it are Decel switch, lean mixture, throttle switch, air flap sensor, overvoltage protection relay, bad earth, bad wiring, EHA, vacuum leak, just to name a few.

For starters, check the throttle adjustment and make sure that the decel switch which is a smallish switch on the linkage and the throttle switch on the throttle plate make contact. Good luck.
