"normal" engine temperature w210 300 td

I everybody.

At Portugal, where I live, the temperatures start rising, (35 Celsius - 38 sometimes).

I noticed that my MB w210 300td when the ac is off the temperature is almost in 80ยบ Celsius but when I turn on the A/c the pressure in the coolant system duplicate (seeing the "board computer" pressing REST + another key) and the temperature sometimes reach 92-95 Celsius.

Is this normal?

Should I change the coolant fluid?

Best regards

anything below 110 is normal in hot traffic... 95 not a probelm ..

My C280 has run and still runs at between 80c and 90c, as M/B Techman said this is normal.

It this a common issue with all MB? What will be the abnormal temperature reading in hot / heavy traffic? Or is everything normal apart from going into the RED ZONE?

As I said I've owned my car for almost 4 years and it has never when below 80 degrees C. Except when its cold, that is sitting over nite and it has never hit the 100 degree C slash. Also, even in winter my car's engine my cars warms up very quickly, with two of three blocks from home it is almost up to the 80 degree C mark. So, put your mind at ease as long as it stays between 80 degrees and 100 degrees C your car is at normal running temps. I poured a bottle of the supposed coolent cooler product in it a few month back and it still runs, in my case betwen 80 and 90 degrees C. I was stuck in traffic a while back on a really hot, hot day over 90 degrees F and the engine temp stayed as described above, oddly my stop light bulbs must have gotten really hot as the melted the stop light lens with what I best describe as dimples.

The auxiliary fan will come on at 105c.

Benzbob: TD is turbo diesel? If so, these engines run a lot hotter then gas. At least the cummins I had in the tractors I owned before I had to sell my trucking company did.

I read in Car and Driver, VW is coming out with a 4 banger which is both supercharged and turbocharged. The SC is for off line accleration and the turbo for top end. It is supposed to crank out 168bhp. Kind of overkill IMHO.

Thanks for your opinions.

But it's normal the rising of engine temperature when I turn on the A/C?

I use to think not, in fact I remember driving tips, years ago that said if you are in traffic on a hot day and have AC turn it on and the engine will cool, and the engine did cool. BUT my Mercedes the temps rises slightly when the AC is on and rises in traffic, but not much, perhaps up to 90 degrees C. I asked the service advisor at the dealer about this and he said this is normal.
