OM616 swap into other chassis?

Default OM616 swap into other chassis?

I'm considering the OM616 as a possible powerplant for a Datsun because of their reputation for reliability. I was wondering if anyone had info on the dimensions of the engine, mainly the length of the engine from the flywheel to the farthest forward pulley.

Also out of curiosity anyone got any links to any built OM616's? Any info on turbo'ing the 616? what are the strong/weak points of the 616?

Thats the other engine I was looking at. I'm more concerned with torque than power. This will be for a light duty tow rig (if I get around to it, this is still very hypothetical) towing around 3000lbs or less including trailer

As far as the 616, what are the weak points in the engine? because I assumed (correct me if this is a silly assumption) since the 616 and 617 were/are both .6L per cyl I was thinking the bore and stroke would be the same. I was thinking maybe I could use 617 pistons and rods in a 616. or would that not get me the same oil cooled piston setup the 617 has...slash is that even possible?

or are the blocks and/or cranks no bueno for builds?

Sounds like the TDI might be a better idea....shame because 616's seem so much easier to find than TDI's, I also like the look of the Merc engine better but its an engine lol, not supposed to decide based on looks haha.
