Hi again. Another question about the 221. What size oil return are you using? I'm using 5/8'' ID at the moment and the turbo has always smoked a little on idle and overun although there is zero shaft play. Is my drain too small or would a restrictor on the inlet help? My turbo is fed via the head so will probably see 100+ psi at high revs and cold idle. I know the Holset manual says return must be 19mm ID but I'm sure the 221 has a much smaller hole on the CHRA than the larger HX35's etc??

Thanks, Mitch.

Thankyou.

Is my return adequate size? The car is currently off the road whilst I save for a custom tune and I want to sort the ****ly issues also. I will post up the results of my next dyno when I intend to max out the turbo to see the full extent of its capabilities =)

I am working up to fixing the main issues on my 300sd, but want to start getting the right parts for the custom setup I want to be at. I dont want to buy stuff for stock, only to replace them when Installing a new turbo, motor mounts, ect. Where is a good place to start with my 300sd? I see 300d's mainly being modded because of their size/weight and want to mod my sd to be different. I was looking at your setup and would like to start my list of parts to buy and things to read to correctly mod my sd. I plan on using the stock trans, after fixing some of the spring issues. Is this okay? Do you have the internals done on your 300d or stock? Does the 221 Holset bolt up to the stock manifold? Im working my way up, but you have to start somewhere! Thanks for the help

What is a nice turbo you would recommend to use if you just keep the stock T3?
