Very sluggish 240
I have found that at least one of the reasons that my car is so bloody slow is b/c the butterfly in the carb is only opening about 1/3 of the way. So of course i tired to make some adjusments so that it opens all the way. no it opens about 3/4's (the butterfly) ,but all the corresponding linkages are bottomed out.
?'s
- are there any reference points that i can use to properly adjust ALL of the linkages
- are there any manuals that contain related info (hanyes has a cool cover but that's about it)
thanks-zach

RE: Very sluggish 240
I just bought a 1983 240D and upon adjusting the valves found the linkage to this butterfly valve seized (in the open position). In trying to free the linkage I broke the vertical shaft that goes down to the ball joint on the intake manifold. I freed all the linkage up, welded the rod back together, and thought I had just done a "good thing" and had fun doing it. I was curious about the butterfly valve (thinking it may have been some kind of cold start aid). I went looking around on the net and low and behold, guess what one of the pieces of advice was...? The butterfly valve is emissions related and it was recommended the linkage be removed and the valve wired open!!! I still had fun making it work properly and didn't spend any money on it. Hope this helps.

Forced Induction - I think that I want to remove the butterfly flap. Is this the flap that I see when I take the air filter housing cover off? If so, what is the best way to get to it so that I can unscrew the 2 screws that you talk about. Any help is welcome here. I'm really starting to love working on this motor. It's so simple. No computers and other crap to bog the process down. Also, just did the Diesel Purge this past weekend. It made a noticeable difference. I can truly feel the accelleration on the hills etc... How often should I do this again? Anyway, thanks in advance.[8D]
