Trouble starting

My car is having some trouble starting....as a matter of fact....It's not turning on. It sounds like it wants to but then nothing happens. What could it be?

If the Engine is turning normally but not starting the first suspect are the Glow Plugs.
If your Glow Plug light is working normal; when it goes out try keeping the key in the same position for another 20 seconds. Even thought the Glow Plug light goes out if you hold the key in position the Relay has not turned itself off yet and you can let it Glow longer.

Check the Fuse on the Glow Plug Relay. If it is not burned take a real close look at it to see if it is cracked (this happend to me; they get brittle with age).

The Diesel Giant web site has a pictorial on how to check your Glow Plugs. When the page opens up you will need to scroll down the page to see the pictures.

You did not say if your Glow Plug light on the Instrument Cluster working normal or not?

You will also need a Digital Volt/Ohm meter (Multimeter). If you are in the US Harbor Freight stores sell them for $3.

If it turns out your Glow Plugs are OK you might need your Valves Adjusted.

The last thing can be poor Engine Compression.
