my '87 190d 2.5 transmission won't shift to 4th(except for the first shift of the day,then it is ok). so i've been looking for another trans.(to rebuild,then swap) what other trans. will bolt-up? from a gas 190? newer?(mine is a 722.414) found a 1902.3 nearby, but Id. tag (run @ MB club ru.) came back as a 300TE??. junkyard has a '89 1902.3.but I did'nt think to get the Id no. any ideas?----jerry.( I've spent hours searching posts & the internet, so now I have to ask. I see many posts about 190d 2.5 being slow? my 2.5 has lots of power, often chirps @ first to second shift, & gets 35/36 on hwy. and in town, the traffic is no problem keeping up with.(or passing).

 

There's a '87 190D at a yard near me - in wisconsin. That's probably not close to you but this guy will sell for cheeeeeep. This isn't a large a trans, it's conceivable you could get it and have it shipped for like $200 - 300 total. Trans does have over 300k on it but is guaranteed. Besides, between yours and this one you can make something work. Don't try to squeeze the 300TE or the gas 190 in there (I think Forcedinduction speaks to the gas/diesel trans swap issue in another thread). THe one I'm referring to is the second block, but i've included a couple others in case that helps. good luck.

Just for future references I installed a 2.3 gas auto tranny in my 87 2.5 turbo and love it.The only diffence I notice is the 2nd gear start. Which I kinda like better. I did use my original dieselconverter and the red modulator instead of green. I changed the modulator only because the green one from the 2.3 gas was bad. I thought I would try the red and it works great.
