Transmission Problems 300D

Can i get some advice on this problem,
Transmission shifts hard from gear to gear (automatic) sometimes not always,, i am going to check vac modulator this weekend and check vac line, however when i got under cartoday, i saw there was a plastic shield under it,, just never knew it was there,,.. Anyway,, i checked the AT fluid and it is above the line.
Is this a problem? and if so how do i drain a little bit of fluid, do i have to drop the pan or is there a drain plug,,
What else could it be?
1991 300D 2.5 automatic, 175,000 miles,
Any help would be appreciated,, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Had the same problem with 93 model. Turned out, while changing the serpentine belt, I pulled the vacuum tubing. If I recall it, it was somewhere behind right headlight.
Anyway, that is very likely the problem. Fine shifting adjustment is done with a screw (under the cap) on left top of the transmission.

Don't worry about too much fluid. If the transmission is really overfilled it will blow the excess at higher speed.

RE: Transmission Problems 300D

thank you for your help i have found the problem,, the vacumn control valve is not sucking any vacuumn i tested the lines from the unit and get 0 inches nadda...
could it be the vacuumn amplifier or can it be an adjustment on the vacumn control valve?
I see that there is a slight twist in the body to adjust it,, is this correct. if this fails how difficult is it to change?
i have changed the fuel shut off solonoid before so hopefuly it is not as hard as this,,
thanks
