thinking of buying this.

I'm thinking of buying this benz. I like it a lot it looks really cool. I want to use it as a daily driver so I can build my cummins turbo diesel pick up truck.

I'm going to inspect it on thursday and was wondering if there were any pointers or certain things I should check when I drive the car and take a look under it.

I'm an auto tech student so I'm familiar with mechanical parts on cars, but I was just wondering if there were any notorious parts that wear out.

here is the car.

why?

What makes you say that? And what is a typical amount of blowby for these engines. I realize that there is gonna be some with 250k. But how much is normal? Any notorious things I should check before I buy it?

Alright.

Well I'm going to look at it thursday. I'll let you know. I mean it's gonna be daily driver material. I'm not looking for the best car in the world I just want something reliable, efficient, and something that is gonna last.

A 1978 MB non turbo will be very poor on mileage and the pictures I saw only show the back seat which has ripped, discoloured upholstery(probably not leather), has rusty front seat rails and bubbly rust on the exterior. I actually owned a 1978 MB 300D in 1979 (my first MB) but it was never a great car so I have to agree with "Forced" that this is a junker and should be shot and not driven. There are lots of better cars out there. Keep looking.

I retried the link and was able to see the original pics and description. A 240D is an extremely underpowered car and while diesels are indestructible the mileage on this one is high and suspect as noted in the original description. If you decide to proceed check out the underside of the car for heavy rust and check out the engine mounts. When my nearly new 1978 300D was only a year old the mounts were replaced under warranty. If you want an ungainly pimp mobile this is the car for you. BTW, my 300D was $20,000 (new demo) in 1978 so this price is way too high.

alright. well you guys have convinced me to look elsewhere. I'm still going to take a look at it. I'm gonna look at the sticky for which benz I should buy. What is a good highway cruiser? Manual is a must. I do not want an automatic.

you guys

you guys were all a little too skeptical. I bought it. It is the original paint. The engine has a little blowby but with 250k what can you expect? It is the original paint. I'm just gonna run it into the ground. It's a sweet ride, real head turner.
