replacing alternator/water pump belt 1975 mercedes D
hi guys,
so i was driving down the 405, when i notice the alternator light flicker on, and the engine temp starts to go up. I pull over and notice that the alt. belt had snapped, and the adjuster screw had popped out (it was still on its track, but it had come out from the adjuster thing a good 1.5 inches!)
i towed the car home, and started to disassemble the other belts. took off the plastic fan, the large AC belt, and one other belt, which was removed by loosening a bolt on the backside of the upper pulley on the drivers side. however there is still one more belt (smallest one) at the bottom of the engine that i can't figure out how to take off. There is a large 22mm bolt on the hub of this pulley, however when i try to loosen this hub bolt, it just turns the engine.
is there a way to hold the pulley stiff so that i can remove this bolt? or is the hub bolt on this pulley even the way to go?
and another note, was there a nut that popped off the tensioner bolt from the back? it seems odd that the bolt popped out like that...
any help would be greatly appreciated...
