Put gas in my great 300D

Was having girl problems and was distracted. I have owned this car for years and put 8.5 gallons of gas into my 81 300D.

I got the advice from a Mercedes shop to put some engine oil into the tank and keep topping it off with diesel, then run the car for 15-20 minutes until it runs well.

Well, it kept stalling and taking forever to run well again. I finally had the tank drained and filters changed.

NOW, the car sputters at lights, but only some of the time. Also, it loses power out of the blue, but doesn't stall. Then, it starts running ok.

What could I have done??? Injectors maybe or fuel pump?

I appreciate any suggestions or help.

For starters, how far did you drive before you came to your senses?

Sounds like maybe there's still some air in the system somewhere and it needs to be bled more thoroughly.

I drove it for a while. It was dumb to be cheap. I must have tried to run it 10 times and then finally realized it would take forever.

I had the tank trained and the filters changed, but the car isn't the same.

It will idle very rough especially when I decelerate quickly at a stop light. It will also lose power at out of the blue and then start running ok.

Thanks

I used to work in a Fuel Injection Shop.
I have seen 2 examples of a large amout of Gas in the tank.
The first one was barely driven and the owner dump alot of Oil in the Tank. On that one the tips of the Injector were burned off.

Also the inside of the Injector can get scored/galled.

The other occurance a Wife put Gas in the Tank and continued to drive it like that until it would not go any more.
That one damaged the Injectors and the Fuel Injection Pump.

The Injectors are the easiest check and the least expensive to fix.

The Fuel Injection Pump is tought and is most likely OK.
