Default Pro's/Cons on a 85' 300TD

Hey guys, first post here on the forum. I am new to MB diesels, but not diesels in general. I've owned cummins trucks and currently have a 7.3 powerstroke. I am thinking about doing the WVO or ATF thing, and wanted to try it out in a vehicle cheaper than my F250. I'm looking at a 85' 300TD wagon with the turbo 5cyl. Can you give me an idea of what to look for? Is this considered a decent car/engine? It appears to be in rough shape, but the owner is asking $1.5k. I thought it might be a good car to test alt fuels on.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen too many people using ATF in old Mercedes diesels but you will find people using preheated, filtered WVO.

I DO NOT SUGGEST DOING EITHER! If you have a source of WVO then I would learn how to make biodiesel that will clean rather than detriment the engines in any of your diesels. Their are some nice websites that tell you how to make and test the quality of biodiesel. The same sites will usually sell you the chemicals needed and the fuel lines needed to replace to run the vehicle with B100 fuel.

That is just my 2 cents.
