This question is in reference to my '78 300cd. On the fuel line, just downstream of the transparent diesel filter there is a small hand pump used for priming the line. Is this pumps only purpose in life to prime the system after running out of fuel? Or does it also act as a lift pump while the car is running? My understanding has been that the injector pump does all the work to get the fuel from the tank to the injectors.
