Default Odd noises after 3 hr interstate trip

Hi I am new here and just got my 1985 300d on friday. I drove today from Charlotte NC to Raleigh NC and kept a pretty good pace on the highway (anywhere from 70-80 mph with traffic). When I finally got off of the interstate there was a strange almost metalic clanging noise from what I believe to be the rear of the car. I drove for about ten minutes until I reached my destination once I was off the interstate and the noise was very interminant (coming and going) mostly when slowing down but never really when gaining speed. Just wondering if anyone has any advice of what this may be and if so than any advice on how to fix it as I am a big DIY guy.

Thanks in advance

Also check your rear brakes. One or more of the pads may be worn to the point of causing your metallic sound as it rattles around in the caliper or drags on the rear disc. The rear caliper pistons are notorious for sticking so be prepared for some possible unexpected work.
