no coil light
I have a 1987 300td wagon, 124 body style. The coil light just started to not come on and the car will not start at around 30 degrees F when it used to start down to 5 above zero. So , I am assuming that the coil is not working. How do I check this on this car. The engine is different from the 123 style 300td. Are there glow plugs?...
Thanks for any help you can give. Tim |
RE: no coil light
Hello,
When you turn the ignition "on" or position two as they call it in the manual, you should have a yellow light on the dash, it looks like a coil of wire. This is the glow plug indicator. There is a relay under the hood that controls this circuit ,there is a separate glow plug for each cylinder. I included a link at the bottom of the page that covers glow plug troubleshooting and repair in great detail. Check it out. This website is packed with diesel specific repairs and routine maintenance, I have learned a lot there. Regards, John http://dieselgiant.com/mercedes_dies...nance_tips.htm |

Thanks John,
That was a very helpful article. Three of my glowplugs tested bad. Tim |
