new cdi
diesel lovers. I am a new member because I forget my login name and password. In any event I have a new cdi and after talking to the dealer parts manager, discovered that a shop tool (dipstick) costs about $184. I want to physically check my oil on occassion. Does anyone know if a different dipstick from M-B or another easily adaped dipstick or trans dipstick will work? This vehicle gets around 36-38 mpg on the road and it has about 4200 on the odometer to date. I am driving it gently however and a little slower than normal-steve

RE: new cdi
Jarrett,
Did I understand that the newer CDi engines are not equipped with a crankcase dipstick? If so, this seems strange to say the least. Please clarify. Others feel free to chime in, please. I am considering the purchase of a W-211 E320CDi and very interested in any comments. pro or con regarding the current generation E-class cars, particularly with diesel engines. One further question: Is the 2006 diesel engine still the in-line 6 or is it the aluminum block V-6? I have seen posts indicating both. Thanks all. |
RE: new cdi
Our ML is having dipstick on the engine, but in 7 years I used it twice only.
The oil level display on the cluster is much cleaner to play with and the engine never used oil between the changes. My net-friend from Canada reports average 42 MPG on his cdi. I wish they would be sold in California. |

RE: new cdi
MB E320 CDI is pretty amazing. A true 37 mpg on highway and about 31 suburban. Inceredibly well thought out. Nav system is on screen and in speedo etc. Engine is a straight six and quite fast. Great car.
