New 1982 300d, got it!

Hey all, I got the car I posted tranny questions about several days past and we love it! It does flare, or rev up between the first 2 gears up to about 2500rpm sometimes but from what I have read here I can live with it. I am pretty sure I have a vacuum issue as the locks are slow at best, the fuel shutoff works sometimes, and if the transmission uses vacuum I would like to fix the vacuum and see what happens. Also, does the ACC climate control use vacuum? It seems to hunt for a temp or have a mind of its own in auto. My wife is going through menopause and the car acts like she is at the climate controls. Then when she really is the car gets real confused! I had to smack her hand away several times on the 1000mi break in trip we took with the car the day we bought it. We have had to change both the fuel filters once and the prefilter again, when we run it low on fuel. We love it though and thanks for the past and future help on this site. Steve:)

P. s . What is the small vent thing on the middle of the dash above everything else? Steve

The small vent thing is the interior temp sensor. Vacuum/clean the thing and the temp variation may decrease. Everything works off vacuum. 1st purchase should be a mighty vac.

Thanks, as usual after much searching and reading this site and others have answered most of my questions. I am going to check vac, pump, check valves, etc, then banjo fittings, fuel screen, tank and fuel condion, valve adjustment, timing, possibly remove egr and assoc. tubing, etc. Then maybe alda tweak, etc. Thanks, steve:eek:
