This forum is great! The advice has been tremendous. Still, it would be helpful to have a repair manual to look at when I'm up to my elbows in grease.

I've looked at a number of sites and find manuals for 1984 300D and 1984TD, and some that say they cover all 1984 diesels. I'm reluctant to buy them though as they seem to all reference the W123 chassis, and the '84 300SD is a W126 chassis.

I'd get one of these manuals just for the engine and transmission info if those parts of the 300SD is the same as the other models. Any advice?

Does anyone have a clue as to how to determine who manufactured the original brake pads for this car and other classic mercedes' cars? Thanks.
