Default Need to buy tires for the 300D

Greetings -

Its about due time for me to purchase new tires for the car. I currently have the Michelin MX Energy tires on there. The car runs great and would like to put another set on. I am not sure I want to spend $129/tire. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on others or anything to stay away from. It is my commuter car, so I do want a good tire.

Thanks!

Try on tirerack.com. Michelin MX Energy very good tires but u might want to look on tirerack and look at the compasion chart to see what u require in a tire vs what some they have offer.

I drive 100 miles/day. I go to a local used tire place. (Junk yards are great too, how many cars get into an accident right after new tires are put on them).
I Pay $25./tire installed and balanced. I've had all sizes on, just make sure the front two and rear two are the same. If all are, then it is easier to rotate them around.

Also, in general, I move the fronts to the rears when the rears go bad..

I had bad luck with used tires once before. I actually have a set of used on my other car. I got about 10k miles on them and they need to go. Though, they should have been changed earlier. I paid $25/tire +balance & mount.

I've tried lots of tires but keep coming back to either Michelin or Continental. These cars just seem to run better on the stiffer compound the long-mileage tires use. If you decide to go with an off brand make sure to choose a tire with a hard compound with ahigh treadwear rating. My current Michelin WeatherWise tires have a 400 rating, and my 123 loves them. I fully expect 80,000 miles from these tires.

I've heard that Yokohama's Avid Touring tire works very well. Tire Rack sells them for less than $50 each, and they come with a 75,000 mile manufacturer's warranty. Seems like a nice tire if you're on a tighter budget than Michelin or Conti.

Weatherwise sounds interesting. I almost wrecked my Benz today on the ice. I was on a bridge, hit the ice and spun 2 1/2 turns around. You hit ice, it does not matter what tire you have, but the car is moving more this winter than last. I put about 25k a year on the car. These tires have a lot of mileage on them. Thanks for the input!

Ice totally sucks, glad you are OK. Easy fix for safer winter driving is to get four steel M-B wheels (super cheap to scoreat the boneyard) and set them up with four (4) snowtires. Best way to change from season to season since you don't have to go to the mechanic or tire store to switchevery year. Your car will handle 1000% better with snows all around. I've had excellent luck with Kleber snows. Even tho my Michelins are the WeatherWise model I wouldn't say they're great in the snow. Rain, yes - but not snow.

Check out Kumho ECSTA ASX (Ultra High Performance All-Season) tires. I have a set on my 1998 E300TD and my van. I've had them over a year and love them. You can't beat the price at $67 at TIRERACK!
