Default mercedes 124 diesel engine into a gasser donor body

Good morning
There is a shortage of diesel 124s in my part of the world. However, there is a surplus of really clean 124 gas powered models. A 400e has caught my eye. I would like to take my diesel drive train. (2.5 turbo) and put it in this or another 124. I guess I would have to bring along the weak transmission that comes with these diesels and run a fuel return line, put in a push button glow plug circuit and make new motor mounts. Any thoughts? Any body done this sort of project?
My 2.5 diesel drive train is not bad but I have a Fred Flintstone auxiliary drive system.
(rusty floorpan)
thank you for any and all input.

Thank you for your response I could use the drive shaft from the donor car. I am guessing the car chassis cannot be very different. As well the diesel engine doesn't appear to use much in the way of electronics. The vaccum pump can be used for the power brakes. tom

1991 300 turbo diesel the 124 chassis.
Reverse is failing I suspect the b3 cylinder as the reverse works when everything is warm. If I may be greedy and ask please if other transmissions are compatible with this 2.5 liter turbo diesel. (I like this motor). thank you again for your interest. tom
