Loud whirling sound above 35MPH, Help!
Hello- I have a 1978 240D manual with 388K miles. I am hearing a sometimes loud whirling/hum/buzz that i only hear in the mornings during the first 15/20min. of driving. The sound suddenly appears when I reach 33-35MPH and as soon as i drop below that speed the noise goes away. It doesn't matter if I am in neutral or if I am in gear, what matters in the speed of the car. It gets louder the faster I go but then disappears after about 20min. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers side front wheel. When I drive my car home in the afternoon the noise is not there. (air temp. much warmer). Any ideas? Otherwise car runs beautifully. Thanks

I had that too but comeing from rear.My wheel was warm to the touch.I was dreading rear bearing replacement. Then I thought,I will remove brake pads and clean pins and where the pads slide. Then lube with high temp grease.
Problem sloved.
