Default loss of power in 84' 300sd

There is 1984 300sd that I am considering, but the owner said the power stops. It will start right up but once and awhile the the power just dies. My guess is the fuel system but i'm not sure. Anybody that can help or give me comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd start with new fuel filters, and check for vaccume leaks.

I have had that problem before, and the problm was that the fuel filters needed replacment. Lucky for me, I had both spares and did them on the side of the interstate and ocntinued on my way. Make sure you do BOTH, but you start wiht the primary, in line filter. You wil need to purge it afterwards. Afterthis, you need to do the secondary, this is a little tougher to do as you need to remove the injectors to purge all the air out or the engine wont start.

I had a similar problem with my 1985 300sd, check the air cleaner mine would run good at idle and slow speeds but as soon as you asked the car to perform it would cut out start smoking and barely run.
