Looking to buy a 240D/300D

Hi, right now I own a Jeep Cherokee and it is my DD, with all sorts of things done to it.

But, I am wanting something else in my garage, and right now the 300D/240D have both caught my attention.

I really don't plan to do any mods on it like my XJ, I just want her to run and be ready to drive 2 or 3 days a week. Is this realistic for a car like this?

What should I look for in a car like this?

what to look for.

Well, the moderators have far more knowledge than I do as far as this goes, but what I'd look for:

Make sure it has NOT been a WVO conversion.

Check for rust - under floor mats (pull up the carpets a bit), in the trunk, the wheel wells, around the shocks/struts, etc.

Check for a lot of blow-by (they all seem to have some, but just so it's not excessive).

Make sure it shifts easily through all gears.

Depending on how much you want to check it over, a compression check sure wouldn't hurt.

And how well has it been maintained - valve adjustments (need to be done every 10 to 15k miles on the old 240d's)

I use a '74 as a daily driver, and I love it. BUT, it does have a lot of little things go wrong with it - to be expected for a 35 y/o car. That said, it's a testament to the cars themselves that there are still so many of them still on the road.
