Injection timing
Have a 220D, confused about removal and installing injection pump. Removal:The German Instructions says: Set #1 Cylinder T/O on crankshaft--remove pump. Installing: Set crankshaft on 45 degrees (make sure valves of #1 cylinder are closed). Set the marked spline 2 teeth to the right of the mark on the pump. HAYNES says: Set crankshaft to feed begin (24 degrees) Align mark on spine with that on the injectin pump. Why this significant difference. I find the HAYNE' version so much easier since it is straight forward and much easier to align pump to the old setting to fit injection lines.
An additional difference is in timing the fuel flow with the overflow method: The German versions calls for "one drop my fall after 10-15 seconds. The HAYNES' version "one drop every second". What is right--what is wrong? I sure hope that someone will come up with sensible advise. Or are the differences not all too important. PLEASE HELP! Basically, my engine still won't start and that has me worried. |
RE: Injection timing
I had a similar issue - make sure that you are coming up in TDC on the compression stroke - that means that if you remove the glow plug on the # 1 piston that air is coming out....as you rotate the engine to TDC...the injector fires fuel once for every 2 crankcase rotations....you may be 180 degrees off like I was.
